Brunello di Montalcino, ambassador of the high quality of Italian enology in the world, was the first wine to obtain the DOCG recognition. Brunello shows a brilliant ruby red color, which tends to garner over the years. The nose reveals intense, clean, pleasing, and refined aromas which start with hints of violet, tobacco, chocolate, and pleasant flavors of undergrowth and vanilla. The mouth has excellent correspondence to the nose, a well-balanced attack, a full-body, good tannins, and important texture
A concentrated bead of blackberries and minerals pervades the nose and palate. Medium-to full-bodied with well-integrated tannins and a balanced finish. Tight and very focused. Classic Brunello for the vintage. Best from 2023. JS 95
The Altesino 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is ripe and round with lots of pretty textural richness and juicy fruit flavors. These qualities tie in nicely with the character of the vintage that saw long and hot summer days. Dark fruit, plum, and blackcurrant pave the way for savory spice, tobacco, and limestone. The effect is soothing and rich, and the wine remains perfumed and silky to the end. The tannins are well managed in this hot-vintage wine. Fruit is sourced from over 25 hectares of vines with Tufo soils and Albanese rock. Best after 2024. WA 94
